Synopsis

After seven years as an assistant, 29-year-old Evie Summers is ready to finally get the promotion she deserves. But now the TV and film agency she’s been running behind the scenes is in trouble, and Evie will lose her job unless she can convince the agency’s biggest and most arrogant client, Ezra Chester, to finish writing the script for a Hollywood romantic comedy.

The catch? Ezra is suffering from writer’s block–and he’ll only put pen to paper if singleton Evie can prove to him that you can fall in love like they do in the movies. With the future of the agency in jeopardy, Evie embarks on a mission to meet a man the way Sally met Harry or Hugh Grant met Julia Roberts.

But in the course of testing out the meet-cute scenes from classic romantic comedies IRL, not only will Evie encounter one humiliating situation after another, but she’ll have to confront the romantic past that soured her on love. In a novel as hilarious as it is heartwarming, debut author Rachel Winters proves that sometimes real life is better than the movies–and that the best kind of meet-cutes happen when you least expect them.

Review

Evie Summers is living her best rom-com life. Kind of. Forced to help her number one screenplay writer, Ezra Chester, get over his writers block, Evie is trying to recreate some of the classic meet cute scenarios. If she can prove to Ezra that romantic comedies don’t just exist in the big screen she can not only secure her job, but also achieve her dream of being an agent and maybe just maybe she can fall in love.

Would Like to Meet was such a cute and funny story that had me laughing, groaning and sometimes even yelling at Evie. She was the not-so-perfect main character and very relatable. Her job was insane and had me wondering just where the heck her personal boundaries were. After being knocked down a few times in life I just felt like her confidence was in the toilet not only when it came to her job, but her personal life as well. We got to see her grow into this strong, independent woman though and she truly kicked butt at the meet-cutes.
So about those meet-cutes, we got a lot of those and they all went horribly which I’ve always though would happen if tried in real life! They were so much fun though and really helped to push Evie out of her comfort zone. She continuously put herself out there and was so brave about doing them, I could never. I don’t think I could ever dump my drink on someone, attempt to trip them or road trip with a complete stranger. Each one was a hoot and totally fit her personality. The girl never balked or backed down from a challenge, it was quite impressive.

We had two leading romantic interests, Ezra and Ben. Ezra was such a freaking knob and I was constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop with him. The romantic comedy lover in me tried to convince myself he had potential and at times he did. I had a feeling I knew what direction the story would take with him, but was constantly second guessing myself. Ben wasn’t much better though and I found myself peeved at him quite a bit. His only redeeming quality was his adorable daughter Annette. The girl was so cute and I liked that she tried to get in on the meet cute action. Both Ben and Ezra did grow on me but one more than the other. Once some miscommunications were cleared up I was quite happy with how this book ended romantically.

Would Like to Meet was the incredibly cheesy, light and fluffy romance that I was looking for. It was well written and I really enjoyed the script-like scene format that opened each chapter. It really set the scene for this somewhat predictable book that left me satisfied and reminded me of why I love rom-coms.

Side Note: I listened to the audiobook for this one and the narrator did a fantastic job! It was truly well done and I felt added a little something *extra* to the story.
