Move over Karen M. McManus, there’s a new YA mystery queen to share your throne with. Seriously though A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder was so amazing I binged the audiobook in in one sitting. The audiobook itself was spectacular and boasts a full cast that helps the interviews and phone calls of Pip’s investigation really come to life.
Now I know what you’re thinking, a high school senior solving a murder mystery for her senior project doesn’t sound even the slightest bit believable. It was though! It was very easy to see how the original story could be true or why certain things could’ve been overlooked in the original investigation. I loved how many twists and turns this book took. It definitely had its gotcha moments and left me able to guess only a smidge of what truly happened to Andy Bell.
Pip has a serious calling for true crime. She was so dedicated to clearing Sal’s name. While the investigation might have taken over her life, we still got to see the other sides of her. A loving big sister and daughter along with a loyal and caring friend. You could see that she would do anything for those she loved.
There is a tiny smidge or romance in the book, but don’t go into this book looking for just that. At it’s core it’s definitely a murder mystery. The romance was cute though and I enjoyed Pip and Ravi’s interactions. They definitely had chemistry and it was truly so cute.
If you’re looking for a YA murder mystery that’s going to keep you guessing until the very end, this is the book for you. It definitely contains heavy topics such as murder, suicide, drug use, rape and an animal does die so fair warning. I cannot recommend this book enough and highly recommend snagging the audiobook for it!
