Today, she hates him.
It’s the last day of senior year. Rowan Roth and Neil McNair have been bitter rivals for all of high school, clashing on test scores, student council elections, and even gym class pull-up contests. While Rowan, who secretly wants to write romance novels, is anxious about the future, she’d love to beat her infuriating nemesis one last time.
Tonight, she puts up with him.
When Neil is named valedictorian, Rowan has only one chance at victory: Howl, a senior class game that takes them all over Seattle, a farewell tour of the city she loves. But after learning a group of seniors is out to get them, she and Neil reluctantly decide to team up until they’re the last players left—and then they’ll destroy each other.
As Rowan spends more time with Neil, she realizes he’s much more than the awkward linguistics nerd she’s sparred with for the past four years. And, perhaps, this boy she claims to despise might actually be the boy of her dreams.
Tomorrow…maybe she’s already fallen for him.
Rowan was such an intriguing character from the start. She’s raced forward all through high school, fueled by her rival Neil and to be the best, only to find that she should have put more emphasis on the journey versus the destination. While there was romance happening, it was also about her coming to terms with what success can look like and that not everything can always be perfect.
Neil is what every girl dreams of finding. From the freckles to the soft gooey cinnamon roll core he had me. The banter between him and Rowan was just so funny and highly amusing. The sexual tension between these two was something even I could feel from the get go. If she wasn’t going to rip his clothes off to count those freckles I was going to.
This was a very sex positive book that tackled female sexuality head on. It was very candid through Rowan and how she viewed sex and even discussed it with Neil. I loved how open they were with each other about it and Neil’s blushes were *swoon* as if he wasn’t adorable enough.
I loved that I got to go on this journey with them and watch the discovery of who each was beyond their high school rivalry unfold. It tugged at the heartstrings and the execution of arch-nemesis to timid friendship to love was just perfection. While it’s a love story that takes place in the span of a night, it was one that was actually a long time coming.
The backdrop of Seattle for the assassin-scavenger hunt was so much fun. A blurb called it a “love letter to Seattle” and that couldn’t be more true. We get to explore Seattle in a whole new light with Rowan and Neil, having these huge moments go down in the secret Seattle spots along with the more well-known ones. Although their sweet moments did have me panicking at time because it was like “GUYS get moving if you want to win!”
Today Tonight Tomorrow will go down as one of my new favorite contemporary romances. Soloman did an amazing job of writing a romance full of tension, misunderstandings and so much love while also giving her characters so much development beyond their blossoming relationship. I loved every page and hope that it will get the recognition it deserves once it’s out on shelves.
