I’m pretty sure the top two most anticipated books of the year are what we have releasing this week. No one could forget that the final book of the Folk of Air trilogy is releasing with all the buzz about it and the fact that the deadline was moved up to have it be released this year and not next. With it this week though we have a debut novel that was pulled from its regular release date earlier this year due to some (unwarranted) drama. It’s an exciting week and since I’m traveling abroad I’ll be able to snag both on my kindle 12 hours earlier than if I were at home. Bright side right?
Queen of Nothing by Holly Black – Preordered
He will be destruction of the crown and the ruination of the throne.
Power is much easier to acquire than it is to hold onto. Jude learned this lesson when she released her control over the wicked king, Cardan, in exchange for immeasurable power.
Now as the exiled mortal Queen of Faerie, Jude is powerless and left reeling from Cardan’s betrayal. She bides her time determined to reclaim everything he took from her. Opportunity arrives in the form of her deceptive twin sister, Taryn, whose mortal life is in peril.
Jude must risk venturing back into the treacherous Faerie Court, and confront her lingering feelings for Cardan, if she wishes to save her sister. But Elfhame is not as she left it. War is brewing. As Jude slips deep within enemy lines she becomes ensnared in the conflict’s bloody politics.
And, when a dormant yet powerful curse is unleashed, panic spreads throughout the land, forcing her to choose between her ambition and her humanity…
The final installment of this overtly popular series by Holly Black. Special editions galore and the madness over receiving one of those editions has been insane. That being said I did fight for an OwlCrate Special Edition and came out victorious. Yay me. For those that neither care and just want t oread the dang book, snag the B&N edition the cover is awesome and the price is affordable. With the publish date being moved up to this year I’m really hoping the writing wasn’t rushed and that I won’t be disappointed in the conclusion. Also I need just a tiny bit of faerie smut.
Blood Heir by Amelie Wen Zhao – Preordered
In the Cyrilian Empire, Affinites are reviled. Their varied gifts to control the world around them are unnatural—dangerous. And Anastacya Mikhailov, the crown princess, has a terrifying secret. Her deadly Affinity to blood is her curse and the reason she has lived her life hidden behind palace walls.
When Ana’s father, the emperor, is murdered, her world is shattered. Framed as his killer, Ana must flee the palace to save her life. And to clear her name, she must find her father’s murderer on her own. But the Cyrilia beyond the palace walls is far different from the one she thought she knew. Corruption rules the land, and a greater conspiracy is at work—one that threatens the very balance of her world. And there is only one person corrupt enough to help Ana get to its core: Ramson Quicktongue.
A cunning crime lord of the Cyrilian underworld, Ramson has sinister plans—though he might have met his match in Ana. Because in this story, the princess might be the most dangerous player of all.
There was so much controversy surrounding the original ARC of this book that it was pulled off shelves weeks before it was meant to be published. A ton of rewrites and a few sensitivity readers later and it is finally published and released into the world. I never read the original version of the book, but from the passages I saw I personally did not see and issue, but I respect the opinions of those who read the full novel and spoke out about it. All of that being said I’m just excited to finally get to read it! I preordered a UK copy for pickup during my travels and should already have my hands on it since I’m prewriting this. Again the time change that will destroy me when I get home works in my favor.
